Even on a rainy day, Mint Artists work productively.
Every summer, we teach productivity tools and techniques to young artists – and sometimes they teach those skills as well.
We ask them their best productivity hacks in 2023 and heard some excellent ideas. Read these short productivity tips from our artists and summer workers – and please, add your own in a comment.
“Start at an early time. Early in the morning.” – Tamara Wilson, an artist who in 2023 was in her first year with Mint Creative Summer Jobs. Tamara also works a full time job and goes to college.
“Take a break. You get what you put into a painting.” – Jessica Fligger, who was in her fifth year with Mint Artists Guild, this time as leader of one of our artist teams. Jessica’s painting has become a favorite Mint un-holiday card called Beam Me Up . She attends University of Michigan.
“Make a schedule. Figure out what takes the most time…. Figure out what you need to do first.” – Dayana Juarez, who was in her third summer with Mint. Dayana has worked part-time with artist Hubert Massey, Mint’s co-founder, and other jobs and mural projects. Read Massey’s productivity tips here, including the importance of goal setting.
“Stretch. Get your body moving while you’re working.” – Jamela Lugo-Thomas, who is aiming for a career in film making. (See her making of our Paint Detroit with Generosity paintings video here .)
“Taking a walk helps. Going outside” for inspiration. – Oluwaseyi Akintoroye, who was a Mint leader for two years and now is at Wayne State University. “Center your time management” around when you’re most productive.
We hope to add new productivity hacks to this over the summer, and will definitely add productivity tips to the Mint YouTube channel this year.
